TALKING POINTWhile painting plein air along the Jordan River Parkway, I settled beside a dock extending over the river behind the International Peace Gardens. I chose to work during the midday light, when shadows dappled the pathway while sunlight illuminated the dock, river, and opposite bank. The contrast between shadow and light gave the water a warm, golden glow and drew my attention to the quiet brightness beyond the shaded foreground.
As I worked, the dock became a gathering place. People stopped to talk with me, while others paused to photograph the river or sit together at the water’s edge. The steady stream of people stopping to engage with the place, and with me as I painted it, became part of my experience of the scene.
