INTIMATE SCALE
Working at a miniature scale challenged me to reconsider nearly every aspect of my collage process. I wanted to discover how small I could work while still creating pieces that felt complete, refined, and visually engaging. As each composition became smaller, every decision carried greater weight. The size, shape, and placement of individual paper fragments became increasingly critical, while the natural layering that gives collage its depth also introduced new technical challenges.
Rather than simplifying the imagery, I chose to maintain the same level of complexity I pursue in my larger work. Landscapes, still lifes, florals, and studies of everyday objects became opportunities to explore how detail, light, and atmosphere could be translated into increasingly intimate formats.
These works are also an invitation to slow down. Their scale encourages viewers to move closer, discovering not only the subject itself but the thousands of carefully placed fragments that create it. By reducing the size of the finished work, I hope to expand the experience of looking, transforming a brief glance into a moment of curiosity, observation, and quiet engagement.
